I was a bit behind schedule this morning, so I got in the gym and did an abbreviated “lighter” training session:
- 3 sets of 10 Narrow Kickstand Squats on each leg with a 25lb goblet style weight hold
- 3 sets of 10 Alternating Dumbbell Bench Press with 50lb weights
- 3 sets of High/Low Carries with 50lb weights for a back and forth across the gym
- 3 sets of 20 shoulder taps
By the time I got to the shoulder taps, my shoulders were shredded from the bench and carries. By the time I sat down for lunch with the Mrs. a few hours later, it freaggin hit me that I needed a nap.
Narrowing the stance on Kickstand Squats is definitely lighting up my Med/Min glutes on my right side – as is my goal. I need to get in and do a full set of barbell squats on Friday, keep getting better hip/knee/ankle mobility, not to mention increasing the strength of my posterior chain. I really need to do a round of deadlifts too – should be doing at least 335, maybe I’ll try for 345. Friday is going to be a tiring morning, that’s for sure.
Post workout, I’ve started getting a burrito from a local chain on the way home. Was going with the Carne Asada, but I discovered a “Loco” burrito that’s got rice and beans with some carne asada. The extra carbs seem to help recovery.
I’ve started watching Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! on Netflix – it’s giving me some inspiration. I really need to train harder – not that I’ve been training particularly hard anyway. Boxers deserve respect for what they do, as do all high-level fighters.
